The Night Wrap is an excellent method of treating inflammatory tendon sheathe issues.
Tendons are surrounded by sheathes in which they slide around in. Excessive sliding caused by doing too much, too quickly can often cause this sheathe to get inflamed and incredibly sore.
The Night Wrap is a topical anti-inflammatory – meaning we apply the creams directly to the sore spot to treat inflammation. This is particularly useful in place of oral anti-inflammatories such as Nurofen and Advil which may cause gastrointestinal issues in those prone to them. Additionally, it works while you sleep through the night!
Common injuries we use this for include:
- Achilles, peroneal and tibialis posterior tendonitis
- FHL tenosynovitis
- Ankle sprains
- ITB syndrome
The method is simple and can all be bought over the counter from your local chemist.
You will need:
- Diclofenac gel – aka Voltaren gel
- Hirudoid cream
- Glad/cling wrap
- Simply apply equal parts of the Voltaren and Hirudoid cream around the sore area (such as your achilles tendon) for around 2 minutes until it is absorbed.
- Then apply an extra amount of both but do not rub it fully in.
- Wrap up the injured area with the glad wrap so it doesn’t mess you bed sheets
- Then go to sleep and let the Night Wrap work its magic.
Your physiotherapist will determine how long to do this for – but often best results are achieved with 1 week of use.
Note: if any skin reactions occur using this, please cease usage of it and discuss with your doctor. These issues are rare but can occur.
